ABOUT TAKING DOWN TOBACCO
Taking Down Tobacco is a comprehensive youth advocacy training program created by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids in partnership with the CVS Health Foundation. This initiative educates and engages youth through free online and in-person trainings. It provides introductory training for youth new to the fight against tobacco and advanced training to help young leaders take their advocacy to the next level.
Geared toward middle- and high-school students, Taking Down Tobacco empowers youth to create change in their schools, communities and states and help achieve the first tobacco-free generation.

WHY FIGHT TOBACCO
Tobacco use is the No. 1 preventable cause of death in the United States and around the world. Every year, tobacco kills over 480,000 Americans and 6 million people worldwide.
The U.S. has made tremendous progress, cutting smoking among high school students by 70 percent (from 36.4 percent in 1997 to 10.8 percent in 2015). However, 2,500 kids still try their first cigarette each day, and 5.6 million kids alive today will die prematurely from smoking without strong action now to prevent it.
Ninety percent of all adult smokers start as teens or earlier, so preventing young people from ever using tobacco is critical to solving this problem. Youth are powerful and passionate voices in fighting tobacco. Youth advocates lead this fight by encouraging their peers to be tobacco-free and urging national and community leaders to take action.
